Daktaripremiered on January 11, 1966. Daktari (the Swahili word for "doctor") featured an American animal doctor and his daughter living on an African game reserve called Wameru.
Set in Africa, this family series was based on the 1965 movie, "Clarence The Cross-Eyed Lion," and retained several of the original cast from that movie, with a few additions. The story unfolded around the wildlife preserve of Wameru, overseen by Dr. Jack Marsh, with his daughter, Paula. He was helped by Jack Dane, another American, and a local, Mike Makula. The most popular stars of the show, however, were the animals, Clarence and Judy, a mischievious chimp, making this a very memorable show.
