I'm a self-taught, professional artist living in Pontardawe Wales. I've always enjoyed painted, but it was not until becoming
ill in 2005 that I revaluated my life, chased my dreams and took my passion of painting on a full time basis.
My paintings are dramatically textured and lavishly enriched with metallic's. They transform from dawn to dusk. I lovingly paint mainly contemporary art
landscape, floral poppy paintings, and abstract art.
I'm passionate and obsessive about painting and
I channel my explosive creativity by painting daily. I'm always brimming with new fresh ideas. Each painting will take many days to complete, to allow the layers of texture to dry, so I will works on a
couple of pieces at a time, jumping from one to the other.
Artist Statement
As a young child I was naturally drawn to expressing myself with painting and drawing. This still resonates true in my life today. When I work freely with a blank canvas; I am reminded that I have an ability to create something from this nothingness. As I paint I render back to a child like state, giving me a form of escapism from today's fast paced world.
I begin a piece by sketching the original inspiration onto paper. Then I let myself freely dabble with colours. By the time the artwork is in the initial stages of composition I become quite obsessed with it, even dreaming my new creation. I don't finish until I feel my painting is talking back to me, shouting out its completeness. I love the whole process of seeing the work emerge from the raw through to its organic state. In its entirety it fills me with immense sense of satisfaction and relaxation.
I use mixed mediums which enable me to sculpture thick metallic texture onto the canvas. Creating textured art to its extreme. Sometimes I am creating textures and inch out of the canvas. I love painting poppies and floral artwork, because they capture my childhood. My contemporary landscape paintings, represent closely with my spiritual view of life. If I was to describe my artwork in three words I would use, bright, bold and beautiful!. I paint full time in my home based studio in Pontardawe, Wales. When I am not painting I spend my time with my four children.
