FROM THE AUTHOR'S INTRODUCTION
"Both Daddyji and Mamaji are set in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Daddyji, a biographic portrait of my father is, by extension, the story of a representative ancient Hindu family from an Indian village, aspiring to enter the modern world, and Mamaji, a biographical portrait of my mother, is also, by extension, the story of a representative ancient Hindu family, but this time from an Indian city, and not so much aspiring to enter the modern world as trying to consolidate its place in that world."
