The Rainbow

This is a copy of the soft cover edition published by Jan-Forlag, Stockholm in 1942. It is the First Edition thus.

Original yellow wrappers.

A little foxing on the edges and the half title and a few pages with some scattered marginal foxing, otherwise a very clean copy internally. The upper wrapper has a little marking towards the lower edge, but on the whole this is unusually clean and unfaded with very little marking.

A fairly scarce edition.

Lawrence started 'The Sisters' in March 1913, wrote four different versions and claimed to have discarded 'quite a thousand pages' before completing The Rainbow in May 1915. This important novel was first published in November 1915, and suppressed just over a month later.

It was Lawrence's fourth novel and is about two sisters growing up in the north of England. The character of Ursula Brangwen was partly based on Lawrence's teacher associate in Nottingham, Louie Burrows, who he was engaged to for fifteen months before his elopement with Frieda Weekley.

Any book may be returned within seven days of receipt for a full refund if found to be other than as described.
