Plans for D E Foster’s ‘Dreamer’ biplane – 38.5” span .40 Cu In OS Here is a reprinted kit plan made available from the archive of a collective of fellow aero-modelling enthusiasts. The archive contains older and hard to find RC and free flight model plans as well as rare, or out of production, kit plans.

The plan offered is a high quality print and does not fade in strong sunlight like the traditional dye-line prints used by the majority on plan suppliers in the past THIS LISTING IS FOR A TWO-SHEET PLAN SET ONLY – YOU ARE NOT BIDDING FOR A KIT OR AN AIRFRAME A chance to bid on an unused copy of the kit plans (2 sheets - each approximately 24” x 40”) for the D E Foster designed compact aerobatic biplane called “Dreamer”. This early seventies sportster from America has a wingspan of 38.5” , and an overall length of 36.5” making it possible to transport ‘fully-rigged’ in average sized cars (or even some of those ‘cleverly packaged’ modern small cars !). My research indicates the ‘Dreamer’ design was initially offered as a plan by ‘Flying models’ ( The Dreamer is intended for 0.40 cu in 2-stroke engines, though an equivalent 4-stroke, or even suitable modern electric motor could be used (Brushless motor & 4s Li-Po battery). . The design weight for the Dreamer is 4.5 pounds. The Dreamer has full 4-function controls, with ailerons (& dihedral) on the parallel chord straight lower wing only. Top wing is swept-back, but flat (no dihedral). The ailerons are shown as being driven by a centrally mounted servo, operating the ailerons by a pair of bell-cranks (one per aileron). Nowadays it would be preferable to fit a servo to drive each aileron directly. This gives the option of experimenting with aileron differential, and even flap mixing, via a computerised transmitter. The ‘Dreamer’ is a traditionally built balsa & plywood sport model that has pleasant semi-scale looks, typical of small ‘home-built’ or aerobatic biplanes. The rear section of the fuselage is quite deep, which aids knife-edge flying, and the turtle deck is formed from a stringered trapezoidal structure. The fuselage has a basic box structure, with ‘semi-open’ framework to the rear section. The ‘Dreamer’ features an ‘open-cockpit’, and the plan provides templates for the windscreen and cockpit surround (decking). The fin and rudder are from 3/16” solid balsa sheet. The horizontal stabiliser has a strip-wood framework (1/4” flat plate section), with solid sheet elevators. The Dreamer has conventional ‘tail-dragger’ undercarriage, with 3” main wheels and a steerable 1” tail-wheel. The landing gear legs are formed from alloy sheet, with optional spats, or wheel pants as they say across the pond. You could readily substitute commercially available parts for these items. The wings are of straightforward, traditional, construction with a sheeted ‘D-box’ LE with spar structure, strip sheeted TE, and ribs with cap strips. The plan set has enough information to replicate this ‘sport aerobatic’ design, and is a straightforward build for any experienced kit builder or even a confident novice plan builder working carefully. The completed model is a rugged, yet practical, sport model with the quaint semi-scale looks of a compact biplane. You can build this sporty biplane on a modest financial outlay ! …. And get the benefit of something unique at the flying field …. Not many people will have one of these !!!!!! Bidding starts at £9.99.
