Description

A somewhat rarer and very attractive duo of commemorative bone china, in this finely made square form Side Plate and tapered Tea Mug, which were produced to celebrate the Coronation of Edward VIII before his abdication in 1937.

These finely made pieces show the image of Edward the VIII, with a ribbon pendant beneath showing, "Coronation" and the date, "12th May 1937".

The pair were made by Sutherland China, and will be "must have" additions for the royalist collector. They are a less common items due to the abdication meaning commemorative wares of the future king, were only made for Edward VIII, before his standing down. Where as all other monarchs had commemorative wares made throughout their reign as King or Queen.

Size :- The plate measures just over 5" or 128mm across, and the mug stands just under 3 1/2" or 87mm in height.

Age :- 72 years old (1937).

Condition :- Very fine condition for age. Only the very lightest of gilding wear to the rim of the mug, as the pairings only flaw. Please check the additional photography for self-assessment.
