From my Colorado Trade Bead collection; this is a stranded set of 12 glass shards.Sherd (spelled with an ‘e’) is an antiquities term reserved for broken pottery, while a shard (spelled with an ‘a’) refers almost exclusively to a piece of broken glass; possibly derived from the word sharp.My glass shards are anything but sharp.Slag material was pressed and 2mm holes were drilled in their centers; they were tumbled until the shapes had the soft roundness of beach glass.The shards were finished with oil and have a pleasing organic feel.These shards are mostly random shapes and are, like all simple things, incredibly useful in skilled hands; ear ring sets, clasps, toggles, buttons, closures, pulls, danglies, pin riders, and more: true problem solvers and project creators.
