John Burrell Colliery Steam Engine Plant

Description
Original factory assembled John Burrell Colliery Vertical Engine Plant. This was one of the highest quality product manufacturers for the model engineering market. This unit was designed by John Hemmens (formerly Maxwell Hemmens company) and marketed in the late 1990's under the John Burrell product line from the UK. The model has never been fired and has been part of private collection since 1999. The model was manufactured in April 1998 and comes complete with operating instructions and boiler test certificate. This particular style of unit is extremely rare and seldom seen on the market. Serial Number 2 of the production series.

This boiler has never been used and is constructed of copper and silver soldered to the highest specifications. It is stove enamelled black, lagged with hardwood strips and secured by stainless steel bands, the chimney is painted white and has a brass flanged top. Fittings include a safety valve, pressure gauge, steam control valve, water fill cap, water level sight glass tube, check valve, and blanking plugs. Ceramic burner and gas supply fittings are included.

The engine has the craftsmanship of the early engineers in a precision working model a vertical colliery engine plant. The speed of the engine is controlled by the steam valve positioned vertically at side of the boiler. The engine will require a steam pressure of 40-50 psi for normal running. The engine drives a water pump which forces water into the boiler. The control of water to boiler is made by operating the 3-way valve. A displacement lubricator fitted to the valve chest on the engine provides lubrication to the internal parts of the engine. Twin brass oilers are positioned on the crankshaft bearing to wet the crankshaft bearings. Exhaust steam is vented is metal condensation trap. The extremely detailed gearing drive a shaft which turns a dynamo and lights the miniature street lamp. Measures approximately 14"L x 13 3/4"W x 11 3/4" H (to top of chimney)

This listing is a consignment from a private collector and sold strictly as-is non-returnable. The signature brass base plate has tarnish due to age and can be left to give a rustic appearance or the model could be disassembled from the brass plate and polished. Realistic price for museum quality product.
