This handy guide is for anyone wanting to use clay when working with people who have special needs.  These needs can range from temporary disabilities (for example, an injured hand) to permanent disabilities (such as blindness) to mental illnesses.

In this book, Claire Botterill discusses making methods such as coiling, throwing, and modelling, and the various tools and equipment that can be used.  A wealth of clearly explained, imaginative projects are given with step-by-step instructions.  The projects give a recommendation for the level of ability needed, and include suggested modifications for any physical difficulties that may be encountered.

This is an inspirational as well as practical book which should be of interest to physiotherapists, teachers, occupational therapists and all who work with people who have special needs.

Claire Botterill has been a studio potter for over 20 years.  During this time she has set up potteries at a number of hospitals and day centres.  She currently works at the Millfield Day Centre for the Disabled, and has worked at several other day centres and hospitals where she developed her ideas and approaches to working with clay and people.
