Photochroms: Antique Photos of a bygone age 

 

This is a great opportunity to get your own  piece of history. Here we have superb numbered 'photochroms'. The original photos were taken during the late 1890's. These photos are approximately 11" X 8" (296 X 210 mm). We supply quality glossy photos, ready for you to frame in standard sized frames which can be purchased in most department stores.

What is a Photochrom Picture? It is a lithographic print made by a process  which turns black and white negatives into colour photographs. This was popular during the 1890s when there was no such thing as colour photography. The finished appearance is similar to that of an 'old postcard' and has a slightly grainy appearance. (Photochroms are not crisp and clear images as we have become used to today) Photochrom pictures were made using colour impressions from multiple lithographic plates. Our photos have been produced from these original pictures, digitally restored and enhanced, then printed upon quality photographic glossy paper ready for you to enjoy. They have a charming appearance and sometimes mistaken for a painting.

United Kingdom customers: Our preferred method of payment is PayPal. Instant payments will usually enable us to send your order within 24 hours (Holidays and Weekends excepted).

UK Destinations: Your Prints will be sent by 1st Class Royal Mail, (usually the same day), suitably protected inside a secure plastic sleeve, inside a strong cardboard backed envelope. Large Photos and Prints will be sent in a very strong Postal Tube. We are able to provide 'Get it Fast', so please choose the appropriate service at the checkout.

Overseas Destinations: All orders will be sent (suitably protected as above) by Royal Mail Airmail, usually the same day, but please remember the time difference between yourself and GMT in the UK. We also offer Airsure (3 - 4 days, but not all destinations can accept this service) and International Signed for service. Please choose the correct level of service required at the checkout. (We regularly send items to the United States and Canada (about 5 - 6 days), Europe (about 3 - 4 days), Rest of World (about 5 - 7 days.) Please allow longer at busy times of the year such as Christmas. Airsure and International Signed for mail is electronically tracked until it leaves the UK, and is dispatched on the first available flight and receives a registered (signed for)delivery at the destination address.

We offer optional insurance for your items. Loss in the post is very rare, however this doesn't help if your order is the exception. Please think carefully when deciding if you should insure your order, especially if your order is a large one. We aim to send all orders within 24 hours (weekends and holidays excepted).

We offer Free Shipping for each additional item you purchase of the same size. We do not recommend rolling 10 or 11 by 8 inch prints to send along with a Large format A3 or A3+ item in a postal tube. Anything over A4 size (11 x 8 inches) will be rolled and sent in a strong postal tube, and we will happily combine additional items of this size at no extra shipping cost.



All Purchases must be paid for within 7 days.


Print sizes are approximate, and may include a white border around the print, which will vary in size depending upon the originals proportions. ie. a square original may have a larger border top and bottom. A narrow tall original may have a larger border each side. We stock pre-printed signed celebrity photos, None of the Celebrity Signed Photos in our listings are originals.

PayPal payers: Please make sure your correct postal address is recorded at PayPal as we use this address when sending your items. Have you moved recently and advised PayPal of the new address?

Variations between actual print colour tones and those displayed on various computer monitors may differ. Minor defects, graininess and or discolorations may be present, which were found on the original image. The pictures on this page are representative of the final product.

The prices quoted are for unframed prints. We offer a framing service as an optional extra to UK domestic customers only.
