The Chord Crimson sub woofer is a new interconnect cable that has been designed to replace the Chord Calypso and the Chord Chrysalis cables. The Chord Crimson when configured for use with phono plugs is a true balanced design and like the Chord Cobra 3 and the Chord Indigo uses a full floating shield.

The Chord Crimson design reduces interference and mechanical noise, has a wider bandwidth and this makes the cable ideal for use as a cost effective interconnect for most Sub Woofers.

The Chord Crimson is constructed around two sets of multi stranded oxygen free conductors in a twisted pair configuration. The conductors are insulated with low density polyethylene and each conductor is surrounded by a lapped oxygen free copper shield. Both shields and conductors use the same gauge of copper conductor.

Dielectric is the term for the insulating material between two conductors and each type of insulating material has a dielectric constant (measurement). Polyethylene has a lower dielectric value than PVC (a lower dielectric value is always better). Gas foaming introduces thousands of small bubbles into the polyethylene and this lowers the dielectric value still further. The lower the dielectric value of an insulator, the fewer electrons migrate from the signal conductor into the insulator. A PVC jacket surrounds the conductor and shield.

The Chord Crimson has been designed as a first upgrade from the usual patch cords supplied with most Sub Woofers, which are of a very low quality. It remains a mystery why manufacturers should choose to de-value their product by supplying these in the box. The Chord Crimson is a great choice for sub woofers.

The RCA plug has been upgraded to the proven gold plated design as used on the Chord Cobra Range.
