Origin: Anxi County, Fujian Province, China

This tea is the spring crop grown on a slope of 70 degrees at an altitude of 3,300 feet in the mountains of Anxi, Fujian province. It is darker in colour than the local standard tea, as it is roasted for eleven hours and then finished off for a few hours over charcoal.

Tasting and brewing:
The tea should be brewed with fresh mineral water at 85 degrees, using smaller intervals of time before pouring rather than smaller amounts of tea.
These days, the tea leaf is rolled into small tubes and then dried for consumption. This allows you to brew the tea several times. As the leaf unfurls, different aromas and tastes are released with each brewing. Tieguanyin tea is excellent for brewing in the GongFu style.

How to Brew Tieguanyin Tea:

The most simple way to brew Tieguanyin tea is to use a small/medium sized cafetiere. Simply put a sachet of Tieguanyin tea into the cafetiere and add boiling water. Pour away the first brew, as this washes the leaves of any impurities. Add more boiling water and leave to brew for around 1-2 minutes, pour and savour!

The tea of one sachet can be reused to make approximately 4 mugs of tea or until the tea is not as flavoursome.

Alternatively, you can put a pinch of tea into a mug and just add boiling water - sip away and enjoy!

Tieguanyin tea is one type of the Oolong or Wulong tea grown in South China.

The various names for Tieguanyin Tea:

Tieguanyin / Ti Kuan Yin, Tit Kwun Yum, Iron Buddha tea, Iron Goddess of Mercy tea or tea of the Iron Bodhisattva

Taste: The taste is alluring with a fresh orchid aroma, a bold crisp flavor and a sweet, lingering finish.

Weight: 100g in total, contains 10 sachets of approximately 10g per sachet.

About Tieguanyin Tea:
There are three main types of tea made from the tea bush: black teas, which are fully oxidised before drying; green teas, which are unoxidised; and Oolong teas, which are somewhere in the middle and combine the best qualities of both. Tieguanyin tea is an Oolong tea.

Although Tieguanyin tea combines features of black and green teas, it's flavour is unique. Unless over-brewed, Tieguanyin tea shows almost no trace of bitterness and generally has a stronger aroma than most other green or black teas.

To keep the tea at it's most fresh, store the sachets in the freezer and use as desired.
