Champion Record Players – The Finest in Sound You’ll find Around, card / plastic flexi record, 1950s.

This is a charming 6½” card record (i.e. card backing with very flimsy plastic record glued to it) that was sent to a record shop some time around 1957-1959 or so. The bottom edge is marked For Demonstration Only and so I guess it was to be played to customers in the shop by the retailer. It plays at 45 rpm and although there is some brief speech about the record players, most of the playing time is taken up with a song called Spin, Spin, Spin by the Fraser Hayes Four, song by Cornelius and John. I assume that this must have been the advertising jingle for the company at the time and it certainly sounds like the sort of tune that featured in commercials of the day. The colourful card shows eight different models of the company’s record players on the back, including a brief description of each and the retail price of each. The record was made by Rainbow Records. It is in very good clean condition and makes both an interesting display item and also it plays fine so is a great addition to various types of collection.
