Innisfree, Lake Midway, Nova Scotia, Canada
*~*Sleeps six people comfortably*~*
Have a great "get away from it all" holiday at our charming one hundred and seventy year old Cape Cod Style holiday cottage on Digby Neck. Innisfree is set in three and three quarter acres of secluded garden; and is quarter of a mile from the nearest neighbouring house. There is a large lawn surrounding the house and the garden has some fruit trees and pretty flower beds. The cottage is located next to Lake Midway and has two hundred and sixty feet of private lake frontage, Lake Midway is an integral part of a local Provincial Park being approximately three miles long and a mile wide; the lake is stocked with trout every year and is fed by spring water so it is safe to swim in. Guests will enjoy a virtual monopoly of the lake during the week and it is rarely busy at the weekend. Some fishing equipment is supplied at the house.
History
Nova Scotia is one of Canada's most easterly provinces and is only a six hour flight away from the UK. This southerly tip of Nova Scotia was first settled by the British following the American War of Independence. The loyalists were deported from New York under the care of Admiral Digby; the town of Digby was named in his honour. Innisfree is located half way down Digby Neck and was built in 1840 on one of the first grants of land allocated to the settlers by George III. The earliest European settlers in Nova Scotia were the Vikings, but in more recent times the French and the British. French is still spoken on the "French Shore", which is the easterly side of St Mary's Bay, where the locals still uphold their French Acadian traditions and there are many music and craft festivals throughout the summer. Annapolis Royal, which is about a thirty minute drive from the house, claims to be the first permanent European settlement in Canada when it was established in 1604 by Sieur de Mons and Samuel Champlain.
Geography
