Just what you need to spice up your family tree research!
"Criminal Register Indexes - East Midlands, 1805-1816" published by Family History Indexes. CD with many details (and over 4,000 records) from original Home Office records at the National Archives (UK). (Acrobat Reader *.pdf files; Reader supplied).
This volume covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire.
The Home Office recorded persons charged with indictable offences in England and Wales between 1805 and 1892 in the registers now held as Series HO 27 at the National Archives. These are now being indexed.
Full information from the registers is provided: names, aliases, court, offence and sentence/acquittal; also a variety of statistics showing numbers of (alleged) offenders and ratios within the population.
Around 35% of those recorded were not actually found guilty and these indexes give a tremendous insight into the social conditions of the time. County-based volumes for all crimes, three supplements by topic and a surname master index are all available.
