Description	NOT RELATED TO SPECIES MARIGOLD . The golden-yellow flowers and the blue-green colour of the whole plant make Corn Marigold unmistakable in arable habitats . Corn Marigold is usually a robust, much-branched plant growing up to 1m in height on nitrogen-rich soils. The leaves are around 10 cm long, deeply to shallowly lobed. The plant is hairless with a waxy surface, giving it a blue-green appearance. The flower-heads are 3-6 cm across and, typical of the dasiy family (Asteraceae), resemble a single, large flower. The central disc-florets are golden yellow, whilst the ray-florets making up the outer part of the flower-head have single golden petals up to 1.5cm long . This plant produces lots of golden flowers above bushy foliage. It is impressive when in a meadow setting, and as a border plant with other annual cornfield (or perhaps, regrettably, we must now say 'ex-cornfield' flowers). The combination of the brilliant yellow flowers and bluish-green, chrysanthemum-like leaves and stems surely make this one of the loveliest wild flowers for the garden. . As its name suggests, the corn marigold is closely associated with man's farming activities. It has grown in cornfields from the Iron Age to the present day and was once so common and damaging to crops that its destruction was required, by royal decree. Today, it is more likely to be found on disturbed ground by roadsides. Like other arable weeds, its seeds remain viable for a very long time, and where and when the application of herbicides on farmland stops, 'gold' may light up the landscape once again. Like most of the daisy family, it is a valuable plant for many insects. Plants will self-seed easily, Unrelated to marigolds.
