CIGARETTE BOX 6th ARMOURED DIVISION & NURSING BADGES

A veneered, wooden cigarette box, nicely inlaid with two military badges. 

The badge top left is that of the British "6th Armoured Division"; the badge bottom right is that of "Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve".

The 6th Armoured Division fought in North Africa and Italy whilst the QAIMNSR served almost everywhere during World War II.

The box may have been commercially produced to a special order or perhaps made by off-duty service personnel.  As with many such items, I am sure there would be an interesting story here if only the box could talk!

The box is approx 160mmx112mm and 40mm deep.  Inside it is divided into two compartments by a small, shaped wooden cross piece.  The lid is hinged by two small, rather crude metal hinges pinned in place (rather than screwed) which are rusting slightly.

There is some wear to the box, most noticeably to the front where some pices of veneer have been lost and filler used, quite neatly, to level the surface off.  There are also a few other small marks and chips but nothing too serious.  Thankfully the lid and badges are in very good condition.

Although there is no indication as to date, this is almost certainly a genuine World War II period piece but made where and by whom is unknown.
