  THESE SUPER TINY, NATIVITY RETABLOS WERE ORIGNALLY MADE FROM "CHICKLET" BOXES, THUS THEIR NAME.  EXPERTLY HANDCRAFTED IN PERU, THEY ARE MADE USING CLAY.  AFTER ALL THE DETAIL WORK IS COMPLETED, THE SMALL PIECES ARE CAREFULLY HANDPAINTED FESTIVE, BRIGHT COLORS AND THEN ENCASED IN A HAND DECORATED PAPER BOX.  RETABLO MEANS PORTABLE ALTAR AND THEY DATE BACK TO COLONIAL TIMES.  THEY REPRESENT PROTECTION FOR THE TRAVELER.

  IT IS TRULY A QUALITY PIECE OF PERUVIAN FOLK ART!
