This a very pretty French Cherry Wood Dresser
Not only it this charming piece made from that most cherished of woods it also beautifully decorated with inlay and hand painted designs
In France this piece of furniture is described as a buffet, this one has three glazed doors to the top section, enclosing a single shelved cupboard. The larger centre door is flanked either side by smaller doors which are decorated with a convex fretwork overlay. Each door is outlined with delicate boxwood inlay and ebony stringing, beneath the cornice there is more of this decoration with beautifully hand painted swags and flowers, this theme runs down each side to the counter top which is backed by a bevelled mirror.(There is a charming little foxed patch on the mirror)
The lower part of the dresser has two decorated drawers one is divided as a cutlery drawer , the doors enclose a single shelved cupboard and this has further eye-catching painting on a centre panel as do the doors themselves, they all have matching brass handles.
This is a very dainty piece of furniture it dates from around 1900 it has signs of surface scratching as one would expect but there are no loose joints or woodworm.
I hope that the pictures illustrate fully the stylishness and uniqueness of this very unusual piece of Classic French Chic
The buffet breaks down into two for transportation when assembled it stands 78” high, it is 54” wide and it is 19” deep.
