Here I offer a Cd containing 310 high resolution scans produced from a very nice,newly acquired , original WW2 Photo album .
The album belonged to a much travelled German soldier , who in the early stages of WW2 served in Poland ,France and Belgium and then goes on to serve in Rommels Deutsches Afrikakorps .
The album gives a great insight into this mans war , he must have known what the war was all about . The images are approx 50% France , Belgium, Poland ..and 50% of his time with the Afrika Korps . Just a few cover the time he served in Greece and Serbia ...so as I said a much travelled soldier . Unfortunately ,I do not have his name but he appears to become an officer in later stages .
He is pictured throughout ... in frozen European winter to hot desert conditions . Many shots of uniformed soldiers in Poland , France , Belgium ..knocked out French tanks , photos of Fort Eben-Emael. Amongst the Poland photos there are 3 photos of Jews on a very cold ,bleak day .
I can only assume this man saw much conflict and lost many friends as he is pictured standing alongside different graves in Europe and N. Africa ...In Europe , one photo shows him with a wound badge on his uniform and while with the Afrika Korps is seen in severalphotos injured with fellow soldiers in a hospital .
There are several photos he has taken alongside and aboard a troop transport ship ...trucks being loaded and aboard the ship . There are also photos he has taken while looking out of a transport plane over Greece and Athens .
Places where photos were taken in North Africa Include Tripoli and Bengasi ..the main listing photo was taken at Tobruk .
He is seen posing alongside Italian soldiers ....seen in all forms of Afrika korps uniform ...including heavy overcoats for the cold nights .
About 10% of photos have some written details in the photos margins , these help us out with his story .
The CD offer an interesting pictorial record of his war .
