In 1982, Philips released the Compact disc player, shortly after,
Marantz did the same, both units look very similar but unlike
the Philips system, the Marantz system was more reliable and though most
of the phillips have died due to laser and motor failure, the Marantz
kept on going. Though these are more robust, there are only a small
number of them around as they were only for the ones with allot of
money, retailing at £500 when new, the CD player didn't really come to
the home market until much later when the prices dropped. This
CD player has not been used in some time, though I have put a CD into it
and it worked! you can get a CDROM for your PC and it burns out in 2
years, this one is now 26years old! Have a look below at the general
