A little bit about Marie-Christine Pavone & Galalith
Marie-Christine Pavone is a highly regarded
and very imaginative artist who lives & works at her flat in an exciting
& very mixed district of Paris. Her whimsical designs are created from
very old stocks of early 1930's Galalith.
Her work is bright, effervescent and always so very joyful to wear & share with others. Her pieces are substantial in weight and the quality is easily apparent when seen in person.
Sadly, she is also a very copied artist and
most similar designs and many pieces claimed as genuine are counterfeit
or poor copies. Ms. Pavone does make a few items in early
Lucite/Plexiglas, but 98% are Galalith - if the item will not test
positive as genuine Galalith, it is simply not her work.
Galalith is
exceptional, often with complex & vivid internal color structures. It
holds a very high & durable polish and has a weight similar to Bakelite.
As with Bakelite, the material cannot be molded again and must be hand
carved or machined to give it shape. Galalith was produced in the 1920's
& 1930's in several European countries. Genuine Galalith is relatively rare here as it was not known to be produced in North America. Galalith is easily hot water tested. Genuine
Galalith gives a very unique sour milk odor that varies in intensity and
can last several minutes and hot water testing does no harm.
This item is a GENUINE VINTAGE 1930's
GALALITH artisan piece.
Not one of the many modern fakes or modern resin items being
untruthfully marketed as Galalith.
