Caloceras Johnstoni Ammonite
Stunning specimen from Somerset, England

This thin-walled Ammonite is crushed, as are most of the Ammonites found in this locality. Flattening of the specimens has increased the area of iridescence of the shell, which is composed of alternating layers of Aragonite and Conchiolin or the minerals that have replaced them during fossilization. These not only transmit light but also diffract it, acting as a Rowland prism to divide light into its component parts while reinforcing certain wave lengths, much as the prisms do in satellites that study the chemical composition of the stars.

This is a rare and highly desirable fossil. This fossil has NOT been painted, its totally natural. They look somewhat like the Placentaceras Meeki in colour but at a much more realistic price... Do a Google search and see how many you find for sale NONE thats how many and never any of this quality. A large specimen measuring 3.75" across in a good solid matrix of 6.25" x 5.6" x 0.8". Simply stunning to look at and an excellent display piece.
As always you get with this and all my items a 100% guarantee of quality and a money back pledge that states.. If you are not completely happy with your purchase, simply pop it back in the post for a total refund including the postage costs both ways.. So it will not cost you a penny.
