What we are offering here is a superb hand coloured mezzotint featuring a religous scene. The mezzotint was published by Roake and Varty of 31 Strand, London. One of the other mezzotints from this series is dated 13th April 1789 and this is from the same period. From the little we have been able to find out about the publisher, it would seem that religous material was their speciality.
This mezzotint shows the a Rich man in the distance and Lazarus thebegger being licked by dogs.
The mezzotint is in good condition and the colour is very fresh, the print aong with 28 more in the series were stored in an album and the colour has remained completely unfaded.
THIS IS ONE OF A NUMBER OF THESE HAND COLOURED MEZZOTINTS WE WILL BE OFFERING OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
The overall condition of this mezzotint is good (see scans). There is an old repair to the upper left corner and the top right corner has lost some paper, this would of course be hidden behind a mount.
The size of the paper is 31.5 x 41 cm (12.25 x 16 inches)
