A well listed Artist whose prints command strong prices, enough so that prints labeled "After Charles Newhouse" are sold at major auction houses. Reference Philips Leeds 2/13/1991, Lot 7, Sotheby's, London, 3/20/1997, Lot 45, Christie's, London, 10/21/1999, Lot 66, etc.. This print is in excellent condition, I, believe due to the thickness, and irregularities that this was printed on Van Gelder hand made paper. The 175+ year age of the paper this wonderful hand colored aquatint was printed on, there is minor age tonality, with the exception of one spot in the upper right hand corner caused by bleeding from the obverse board mount. Rare print, in rare condition, with period frame in good condition with some loss of silver gilding over gesso, as can be seen in the pictures. The print has been mounted with an archival backing in the frame. |
