Building the Overcrank Engine Georgina by Tubal Cain

ISBN 0 85242 7470

This soft-cover book, 5-3/4" wide by 8-1/8" tall, was published in 1981 by Model & Allied Publications of Great Britain. The text of this book is based on articles from the Model Engineer magazine. Photographs and line drawings. 54 pages.

From the back cover:
"This book describes the construction of the Georgina model engine designed by Tubal Cain, which was inspired by examples drawn from the 'Age of Elegance'. It is representative of a type widely used for small powers, and occasionally larger ones, including colliery winding engines. Though simple in design it does introduce some very interesting manufacturing techniques, and its slender proportions make it a delight to see when running."
"The Author takes the Reader through the construction, with many sketches of time-saving devices and photographs of work in progress. The design uses castings for the cylinder and flywheel which are readily available, with the remainder of the parts requiring no more than the usual bar stock. This engine can be built in its basic form, but the Author includes drawings and instructions for the addition of a feed-pump if desired."
"Strong emphasis is placed on the use of simple methods, and no elaborate workshop equipment is needed, for apart from the flywheel, the smallest lathe will sufice."
"Many of those who saw the engine at the 1979 Model Engineer Exhibition remarked on the elegance of the design and the symmetry of its proportions. Now readers can add this popular engine to their collection--with all the information needed for its construction, clearly and concisely outlined in this book."

I have listed this book as new,  I do however need to  reflect its slightly shop soiled condition having lay on our warehouse shelves for 15 years following the closure of a former business.  The book is however new, but very slightly dirty.

Over the next few months we shall be listing literally thousands of different items of serious interest to model engineers.  Our previous business title of MESAS, Model Engineering Supplies and Services, was well known, and highly respected.  The directors however decided to concentrate on their cylinder gas business.

If you are looking for anything in particular please contact through ebay with a specific enquiry.  We shall then check stock, and if available list on ebay.

We no longer have any castings or patterns for any models, similarly we have no boiler fittings, but do have many standard M E size nuts and olives.

B A screws. Hex head, socket caps, nuts washers, many down to 16 BA.  Rivets, various bar materials, although some of the steel now has stock rust on it.  Oilite bushes.  Myford parts and, change wheels.

We used to manufacture taper tooling, and therefore have end mill holders, and various arbors.  Tos lathe chucks.  Vee blocks, angle plates, drill chuck arbors, drill sleeves, R8 tooling.

Number and Imperial drills, reamers, taper pin reamers, end mills, slot drills, by leading BRITISH manufacturers.

CSCT taps and dies in BA ; WW; BSF; Model Engineer; Metric.

The list could go on.  Please don’t ask for lists, as there are none.  Please don’t turn up in person unless you are specifically collecting an item that you have won.  We simply don’t have the time to reminisce about the old days, or kick tyres.
