There will always be debate about coin grading, but where that debate involves 2 or more experienced coin dealers, it's usually about fractions of a grade, not complete steps! In this book Derek Allen has attempted to photograph all the major coin designs in the 4 to 5 major grades. The sourcing of the images and the work putting it together has taken over 2 years and the result is fantastic! Proof copies were checked by selected leading British coin dealers and members the British Numismatic Trade Association.

The marked retail price is £12.99 (about EUR14.20/US$17.00). Postage is £2.50 to UK/Europe or US$12.00 to the USA/Canada/Australasia or rest of World.

Credit cards accepted, cheques/checks, money orders, postal orders in GBP, EURO or US$ welcome.

Brand New 1st Edition (30/4/09):

The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins. Published by Rotographic of London, UK.

In stock for quick dispatch. An astonishing 40% of this initial print run was sold before the publication date!

This new book (ISBN 0948964-83-9) is a 250 page hardback guide to correctly grading British coins. It's already being offered on Amazon, and is consistently one of the top books in the 'Coin, Medals and Seals' category, even before publication.

No other subject is as hotly debated in the coin collecting scene as coin grading. It is the basic foundation of any serious coin collection and most importantly, the basis of attaching any kind of value to a coin with some degree of accuracy. Many try with good intentions but the vast majority get it wrong (especially beginners - bless 'em)!

If you've found this book here on ebay, then you've no doubt searched for coins too. If you've not lost your glasses or are an absolute novice then you would have no doubt already realised that most of what is offered is badly described! And usually, if the seller does attempt to attach some kind of quasi-grade to the accompanying fuzzy image, it's so inaccurate it can sometimes be laughable! Shockingly, not just Joe-public overgrade their newly uncovered coins, but some dealers do too and they should know better!

'EF' does not stand for 'Extremely Faint', 'VF' for 'Very Flat' and UNCIRCULATED coins really shouldn't have any wear at all, regardless of if they are 5 years old or 200!

As a beginner it can be a minefield. All it needs is two that are keen to buy a particular coin, both in the belief that a Fine coin described as 'Extremely Fine' is actually 'Extremely Fine' and one of them will end up paying way over the odds for a Fine coin. This book should prevent that happening.

Even experienced collectors can often do with a refresher on grading a particular type of coin, especially if they have not handled one for a while or if they have not been actively collecting.

Or simply as a benchmark to have on your bookshelf... Every coin collector likely to come across British modern predecimal coins (i.e. those dated between 1797 and 1970) can benefit from owning a copy of this book.

Thankyou for looking at this page, I hope to hear from you soon.
