Lyndon's Collection 

 Sumatra Beaded Betel Bag ca. Late 19th to Early 20th century

Purchased in a Antique Shop in Sumatra in the early 1970's

Beautifully beaded Betal leaf carrying bag.  Intricate detail on front of bag with beads in geometric patterns....some of the beads are missing

and some are loose.  Back of bag is dyed abaca fiber with geometric shapes.  Inside of bag is woven with bark husk backing the beaded front.  The bag measures 7.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall ...overall length is 27 inches measuring from boars hair to top of extended strap.  Some of the boars hair is missing and the bag itself is in fragile condition as it is woven abaca fiber.

This item is from the Estate of a gentleman who worked for a movie studio in Hollywood, California from 1974 to 1988. 

This job took him around the world many times. 

On his adventures he would frequent antique shops, shacks, huts and stores in his broad range of travel.  Being a WWII fighter pilot, adventure comes naturally to him.
