Excellent copper coin struck within a set from 1833 to 1865. To note minor circulation wear and tear. Based on past history Belgium had been very active. The Celtic tribe called 'Belgae' from which Belgium derived its name, was described by Caesar as the most courageous of all tribes of Gaul. Eventually they capitulated to Rome and the area remained for centuries as part of the Roman Empire known as Belgica. When the decline of Roman Empire was divided i three parts and continuous changes got them trough 16th. and 17th. Centuries. More recently, on 1815, they were reunited with the Netherlands, but in 1930 emerged to create their own kingdom and had Leopold I their own first King. Their King ruled from 1831 to 1865, and followed by Leopold II from 1865 to 1909. By the time these coin was minted the new King Albert I ruled from 1909 to 1934. |
