You are bidding for the hand-made British antique, "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN - BOBBIN HOUR GLASS TIMER", crafted in England.
The Doubling Bobbin framing this timer spun cotton at Vale Mill, Oldham, England approximately 100 years ago.
The
yarn was spun fine then "doubled - up" to get the thickness required,
which resulted in the bobbins being known as "Doubling Bobbins".
The
3 wooden struts are Universal Pirns from Colne, England and are also
approximately 100 years old. The pewter edge of the top & bottom
flanges is approximately 75 years old & wove tyre cord in Oxford
Mill, Rochdale.
This unique timer design was commissioned for & appeared in the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film, hence the title. The hour glass appears on screen in the scenes that take place in the captains cabin on ship.
The
timer runs for one hour & approximately measures 340mm or 13.5inches
from top to bottom & is 160mm or 6.5inches in diameter.
This is a wonderful authentic, working object & also a lovely piece of British history with the design originating due to a movie.
The timer is an exact copy the design used in the movie.
