Oil painting by

Swedish Artist

BORIS NINEMAE

(1925-1991)

Excellent oil on panel by well listed Swedish artist Boris Ninemae. He was born in Estonia and moved to Sweden after the war in 1946. Exhibitions in Malmö, Växjö, Karlshamn, Larvik (Norway), Elverum (Norway), Buffalo (USA), Berlin (Germany) and many other places. The picture measures 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" (22 x 27 cm) and with the frame 15 1/2" x 17 1/2" (40 x 44 cm).

This is how the well regarded Swedish art critic Åke Stålnacke described Boris Ninemae and his paintings;

…-"That is exactly how it is. Neither harder nor easier. That is just how it should be for all of us. We should open our eyes, open our senses. We should, as Boris, learn to see life and nature just as it is pleasing with its mildness, beauty and magnificence. It is wonderful that this picture exists. They render a lovely relaxation in this time of ours.

But Boris Ninemae does not paint views of nature only. Lately he has been intensely engaged in creating a suite of pictures, which he calls "Tribute to the worker" or "Tribute to the work". The source of these pictures is very deep-rooted in him.

It started with the toil and moil, which he saw his parents and other people do in the Estonian home village. The farmer’s work with the ground. The everyday toil, heavy and meaningful. The sights, the memories of those people, who were shaping our life, our dwellings, our tools, our food and our clothes with their hands.

There were the old workmen. He looked at them with fascinated eyes. With them he had his heart. The smith, the carpenter, the farmer, the fisherman. All of them artists in their way. Master of the art of handling their tools.

The memory of them has never faded. And so he started to paint these workers, these workers of hand and body. The thought and need to give them a tribute in the form of picture have slowly grown even keener. And over the years he has also continuously enriched his subject sphere through new visual sensations.”…

The painting is ready to hang and I am sure it will give great pleasure.
