Please Note:

You are bidding on the pair of shoes in the picture with a single pair of shoes in it.

The group picture shows other styles of Late Medieval Shoes and Boots for Ladies and Gentlemen
which I can also make for you.
At present they are not listed individually, but I will list them for you on request.

This is a Dark-Age or Early Medieval Ankle Shoe or Low Boot.

This style of shoe was around for a long time in history (800 AD to 1200 AD) and is suitable for Viking, Saxon and Norman historical costume for both men and women. These shoes are faithful historical replicas, NOT phantasy or LARP style shoes, although you can wear them to such events of course.

These shoes are made in historically authentic turn-shoe construction. They are sewn inside out, then soaked in water, turned the right way round, put back on the last and dried out slowly for several days.

I only use best British vegetable tanned shoulders for the soles and finest French calf-skins for the uppers. They have a 3.5mm (1/7in) thick sole and a drawstring, just like the finds that I studied in the museums .

However, they are machine-sewn to keep them affordable. But once they are on your feet all the stitching is hidden inside and so they look 100% authentic. I sell a lot of these to even the most picky of re-enactment societies.

Sizes:

I will make for you the standard UK size that will fit you best.
Due to technical limitations in the manufacturing process I can only make adult UK
sizes 3 to 13.
Option A: You send me drawings of your feet as explained below. If I then supply you with the wrong shoe-size and they need exchanging with a different size I will count that as my fault (this hardly ever happens) and I will cover the return postage both ways.

Option B: You just email me with your usual shoe-size and I will supply you with that size. However if then they don't fit and need exchanging with a different size I will count that as your fault (you did not give me sufficient sizing information to get it right the first time round) and therefore you will have to pay for the return postage both ways yourself.

Taking Foot Measurements:

You MUST send these to me via ordinary mail as scans always get distorted and I can never restore them to their original size. You MUST get someone else to take your measurements for you because your foot  is in the resting position a full shoe size smaller than when weight-bearing. If you don’t stand straight this will also distort the measurements.

Step 1: Please wear the socks/hose you intend to wear with the shoes when you are being measured. NO orthopaedic insoles to be worn with these shoes/boots, they are historical replicas and not suitable for the use of orthopaedic insoles.
Step 2: Put a piece of paper on the floor and step onto it. Stand straight with your body weight equally distributed on both feet.
Step 3: Draw an outline of the foot. Use a sharp pencil or pen that makes a fine line. Take care to hold the pen at a slight angle away from the foot, so that the pen neither leans underneath the foot, nor away from it. Make sure you are drawing an accurate outline all the way round and avoid leaning under the foot especially at the back of the heel.

Delivery times:

I do carry some stock in adult size 3 -13, available for immediate shipment, but they may be a different shade of brown from that in the picture.

Strictly speaking the auction is for a pair especially made for you. In order to have them made for you allow 8 working days for the
manufacture and despatch of your shoes if you live in the UK and 15 working days if you live anywhere else.
For stock enquiry email or phone: 01443 771183 Mon-Thur 10am – 8pm.
Please do NOT phone me outside these hours as I too do have a life beyond work.

On winning this auction please do the following:

Arrange payment.

Get in touch with me via email and tell me your preferences:

1.) Either tell me your shoe-size or tell me that you are going to post foot-drawings.
Post foot drawings to: ANA, 26 Vicarage Terrace, Treorchy, CF42 6NA, Great Britain.

2.) Tell me if you would like the shoes in dark brown  exactly as described in the listing above, with approx. 2 weeks wait for shipping and manufacture, or immediate shipping of shoes which I may already have in stock (no guarantee of that - please check with me before bidding), but which may be a different colour, saddle-tan or medium brown.

Orders from outside the UK:

Because the postage costs for returns are quite high I do insist that you supply me with foot-drawings if ordering from outside the UK.

Postage:

Postage within UK via first class recorded delivery is £4.80.
Postage to USA, Canada, Japan and the European Union is £9.00.

If buying more than one pair, please contact me for a combined postage quote, telling me your country of destination.

Returns:

I only accept the return of shoes that are unmarked, unworn and unmodified. If you wish to return shoes for an exchange by a different size or a refund you must do so within 14 days of receipt.

Feedback rating:
As you can see on the feedback rating, I have only just set up this ebay identity exclusively for selling the shoes I make.
I am also trading as "dulxamara" and if you wish to check out my long term feedback rating, you are also welcome to check that one.

About Us:

My name is Ana Deissler, Ph.D. I am a historical shoe-maker and craft-demonstrator, based in Britain. I do this full time and all my shoe-replicas are based on archaeological evidence. Amongst my customers are Leeds Royal Armouries, The Ashmolean and The Victoria and Albert Museum, who use my shoes to dress historically costumed staff, dummies and to stock handling boxes for educational kits. I also work for countless theatres and film companies.
