"Almost eighty six years have passed since the Asia Minor Disaster, which was such a tragically determining factor in the history of modern Hellenism. Publishers have decided to  present this book apart the DVDS as the least as an act of homage to the world of Asia Minor, to those who lost their lives and to those who were uprooted from the land of their fathers.
Smyrna a cosmopolitan city but with a large and prosperous Greek community , is presented symbolically as representing all the Greeks of Asia Minor, whose metropolis it was.
The unique pictorial material used in this production consists mainly of footage from important historical archives and indeed this may be the
first time they have all been produced together. Thus the viewer can find a virtually complete picture of the lonian capital, since most of the individual pieces in the mosaic are presented in these book and  dvds. In addition, a picture is provided of present-day Smyrna, with photographs taken especially for this production.

 And finally, we commend this work to the viewer in the hope that we have achieved the goals we set when we decided to produce it : that we have created these book+ DVDS in order to pay our respects to Greek Smyrna and the Greeks of Asia Minor, but also to provide tangible proof of the riches and achievements that were the product of the peaceful co-existence of different ethnic and religious communities."
