This ancient and powerful symbol
is recognised by Yogis (Sanskrit = Masculine) and Yoginis ( Sansksrit = Feminine) Spiritual seekers --- as a sacred aid and divine focus for meditation, prayer and Soul journeys.
GANESH is the son of Shiva and Parvati whose abode is the sacred mountain of Kailash in the Himalayas.
An ancient scripture says:
" In heaven this child will establish the predominance over gods, on earth that of humans,
in the nether world that of the anti-gods and serpents."
He causes the four principles of the elements to move and is therefore four armed.
In one hand he is shown holding a shell, in another a discus, in the third a sweet cake and in the fourth a waterlilly/lotus.
GANESHA represents the unity of the small being, a human, with the great being, the elephant.
It is the blending of the microcosm with the macrocosm- of a drop of water with the ocean-of an individual soul with the divine.
This handmade gold gilt symbol from India is inlaid with large diamantes and coloured enamel around the frame.
GANESHA is protected by a gold gilt canopy with gilt droplets, enamel inlay and a diamante.
A small fold-out stand at the back allows the icon to rest free-standing.
The icon is 4+1/2 inches high and 3 inches across.
It looks very inspiring with a small votive candle for meditation, contemplation and Soul journeys.
