Some ECUs are programmable individually & others are so in conjunction with other components on the vehicle. Programming is carried out by using an approved diagnostic tool & software version through the vehicles dedicated diagnostic socket by specialist or electrician. Some individually programmable ECUs can be programmed on bench test & be ready for use.
