All DVD’s are rated to play in a certain Region. When first devised the World was split into 6 Regions with the intention of selling DVD’s to each dedicated Region. This was to prevent piracy and the release on DVD in a part of the world where the film had yet to be shown theatrically. Therefore usually when you buy a DVD player it will normally only be capable of playing DVD’s for the region purchased. However as time has gone on DVD players are being sold as already capable of playing all 6 Regions and people are also having their player converted to Multi-Region capability.
