ARTIST. BERTAM PRIESTMAN RA (1868- 1937)
TITLE. "BRITISH LANDSCAPE"
DESCRIPTION.
A top class large oil on board original Victorian landscape by Bertram Priestman. A gallery or exhibited work. He was at the forefront of British Impressionism - the is one of Priestman's impressionistic works. It has all the qualities of his great works - the low-lying scenery favoured by Priestman. The huge expanses of sky and land which demonstrates Priestman skill in depicting landscapes and his interest in light. "He believed that he could only create convincing landscapes through painting outdoors, therefore capturing shifting light patterns. This impressionist, rather than detailed, view of landscape emphasises his concern with the 'massiveness' of the natural world.Top quality. Stunning colour. A delightful oil."
This is a lovely example of his work in very good condition - a good size and signed - it is a highly commercial oil by a very collected artist. It is one of my favourite paintings due to its impressive impressionistic technique - there is so much more to this than just the landscape subject. Very subtle.
