DETAILS OF THE MACHINE
Starting out as a Standard BBC Model B with 32K RAM, this machine has now got double the memory, with 64K in total. The extra 32K is available in 2 Sideways RAM banks to load ROMs or use as extra storage space. Along with the SWR, and the Acorn DFS, the popular RetroClinic Compact Flash Hard Drive system has been pre-installed, and comes with a 2GB card included. And if that's not enough, this machine also has Econet fitted.

To use the Compact Flash Hard Drive, two ADFSs are included, both contained on a single ROM, along with a specially written control program to switch them in and out with a few simple software commands. One is the regular Acorn ADFS patched for use with the IDE system, and another is a special version that uses one bank of the Sideways RAM as it's worksapce, meaning maximum compatibility with games. You can choose to use either a high or low priority bank, and keep the other free for you to load your own ROM. A High Speed 2GB CF card is included to get you started, formatted to two 512MB partitions, and is loaded with several megabytes of public domain utilities and games to get you started. These latest solid state hard drives are much more reliable, faster, more power efficient, and totally silent compared to their spinning platter counterparts. Add to that the fact that you can simply pop one card out, put it in your PC via any CF compatible USB reader, or put in another in a matter of moments, and you have virtually endless storage available - much more convenient and flexible than a fixed disk system.

The System can take virtually any CF available on the market, it does not need a special type, any that you can buy on the high street or here on eBay will do. The Cassette Motor light has been modified to act now as a drive activity light, so you can see when the hard drive is being accessed. The Internal cable routing of the 1MHz bus cable goes underneath the motherboard for a clean, uncluttered layout.

PC TRANSFER SOFTWARE
A CD is included containing specially written programs that allow you to plug the CF card into your PC, via any CF compatible USB Multi Card Reader, and take an image of the card for backup purposes, and write the image back to the same card, or another one of the same size. The Image these programs create are fully compatible with Jon Welch's ADFS Explorer, which allows you to load the image, browse it, add and delete files from downloaded floppy disk images, manipulate it in almost any way you wish. You can then save that image, and reload it back to a CF card, and presto, your files are instantly ready to use on your Beeb. No messing with cables or serial transfer, nice and easy. Please note that the backup and restore programs are supplied free with the kit, but ADFS Explorer is shareware, and requires a small registration fee to the Author, please see his website for details. An image of the Hard Drive is also supplied on the CD, should you accidentally erase it or mess it up, it will only take you a few moments to reload direct from a PC, or you can use it as a basis for expanding your hard drive with more programs.

In essence, this means that you can add any files you like to the CF card using your PC, and with the internet containing almost the entire software library of the BBC ever written, you're slightly spoiled for choice! Add your own Disk Drive, and copy them to the CF card with the supplied utilities as well!

SERVICING
All my machines are fully stripped, then the cases, PCBs and keyboards cleaned and reassembled. The power supply is stripped and the X2 Capacitors replaced, as well as the start-up Capacitor, to ensure maximum reliability for the future. The machine is extensively tested for reliability on an RGB monitor, and all keys on the keyboard are checked, and keyswitches replaced if necessary. The case is in very nice clean condition, with only some slight yellowing to the case, some rubbing marks around the "ash tray" area, and a few light scratches. It also has an ex-school security mark on the top of the case, which is visible, but not obtrusive.

I can either supply, or put you in touch with a supplier of, a monitor cable for most types of monitor, including Microvitec CUBs (6 pin DIN), the Acorn/Philips 8833 Mk.1 (8 pin DIN), or a SCART cable, should you require one.

UPDATE: Having re-read thru my listing, I realised that I'm supplying the manuals for View, but the machine doesn't have View installed. So I will include an original copy of View in a separate ROM, which can be used from the ZIF socket if required.
