**AS SEEN AT THE ACORN WORLD SHOW, HUDDERSFIELD AND LONDON RISC OS SHOW** This is a Buy-It-Now sale for a BBC Model B 32K, Advanced User Guide, 1770 DFS, and a serious set of upgrades! Internal DataCentre System DataCentre is a new 5 in 1 upgrade for the BBC Computer range from RetroClinic. It provides 5 functions on one board:
The DataCentre system is both simple to use for the first time user, and highly programmable by those with the knowledge. It cuts out the extra step common to all other MMC and Hard Drive based storage systems for the BBC, that of the "transfer software" on the PC, with the DataCentre system, you no longer need any special software on the PC whatsoever. You simply use any USB storage drive, of any capacity, be that a solid state Flash Drive, or a conventional Hard Drive in a USB Enclosure. You then download the software you want directly to it, put it in the Beeb, and it can see it all. With a single command, the image can be imported either to one of the 4 available RAM Drives, or directly onto a Floppy Disk. Here is a quick example of loading an image and creating a disk, demonstrated at the Acorn World show. You can then go on to play the game, or modify that disk image whilst on floppy or in the RAM drive, or even use your own floppy discs, and export them back to the USB drive in one of two standard universal formats, known as SSD or DSD. These images can then be immediately used on the PC by plugging the Drive back into the PC USB port, either to upload to your website, or use in an emulator, or to archive on CD etc. Compact Flash ADFS Hard Drive System The DataCentre board also has it's own onboard 16 bit IDE controller, which on this system is connected to a Compact Flash adaptor, allowing you to use a compact flash card up to 2GB capacity. A 2GB Card is included, which has been formatted to two 512MB partitions, for 1GB total storage. These latest solid state hard drives are much more reliable, faster, more power efficient, and totally silent compared to their spinning platter counterparts. Add to that the simple fact that you can pop one card out, and put in another in a matter of moments, and you have virtually endless storage available - much more convenient than an old fixed disk system. It does not require any special CF card, any one and size from a High Street store, or here on eBay will do. I have loaded a few megabytes of public domain utilities, games, and programs etc to get you started, and configured most of them to be fully menu driven, so you can start out without having to type a single * command. There are tutors on the drive to help you get started with the ADFS system, if you've only been used to DFS in the past. The IDE Interface on DataCentre is a full 16 bits wide, unlike most other IDE systems available for the Beeb at the moment which are 8 bit. Whilst ADFS still only uses the system in 8 bit, having the full width IDE system in your machine makes it future-proof, when new filing systems that are being worked on are made available, for Archimedes drives, as well as CD and DVD Rom Drives. What Else is in there? This machine started life as a Standard BBC Model B with 32K RAM. Two extra banks of Sideways FRAM (Ferroelectric Ramdom Access Memory) have been installed, to give 64K on the main board. FRAM is used because it is non-volatile, meaning it can store it's data even with the machine switched off, without the use of batteries! No more having to reinitialise the ADFS every time you want to use it, unlike other systems, and no batteries to go flat, or leak all over your PCB. Along with the SWR, and Econet, a RetroClinic 1770 Disk Interface running Acorn DFS 2.26 is fitted. It is equipped with the latest 1772 controller chip, which is superior and faster than the original 8271 or the earlier 1770. The Floppy drive system can be used with the ADFS and the CF Drive, as well as being fully integrated with RamFS and the USB system.
Roms included in the system are as follows:
The main board has been modified to take larger capacity ROMs without the need for a ROM/RAM Board. There is 1 free standard socket on the motherboard should you wish to add your own ROM. The Original Acorn User Guide is included, as is an addition book, covering advanced programming in machine code. This machine is also fitted with the Econet Interface. The NFS can be loaded into FRAM as necessary, so it doesn't take up memory when it's not being used. With this sale, you also get a 2GB USB Flash Drive, to get you started. There are a number of sample images on the CD provided that can be simply dragged across and used, as described in the instruction manual, to get you familiar with the system. Also included are a set of USB cables, one USB A plug to A socket, to extend the rear mounted USB socket, and a USB A plug to B plug, to allow direct connection of your Beeb to your PC, via USB. PC TRANSFER SOFTWARE For the ADFS CF system, transfer software is included on the CD if you wish to transfer your files that way. But remember, with the USB interface, no transfer software is needed at all, everything can be copied over on a USB flash drive. SERVICING I can either supply, or put you in touch with a supplier of, a monitor cable for most types of monitor, including Microvitec CUBs (6 pin DIN), the Acorn/Philips 8833 Mk.1 (8 pin DIN), or a SCART cable, should you require one. Please see my feedback and see what other people who have baught similar machines from me think of them - you will not be disappointed! PayPal accepted with NO surcharge. Please see the photo below for images of the actual machine on sale. Unlike some other sellers, I do not post "generic" pictures, then sell you something "similar" - what you see below is what you get in this sale! Thanks for looking, and if you have any questions on this system, then please ask! Kits are also available to upgrade your BBC B or Master with an internal or external CF card Hard Drives or DataCentre boards, as well as 1770 Disk Upgrade kits, Switchable OSs for the Master 128 and B+, and other refurbished BBC Model Bs and Master 128s. Please check my other items for sale, or if they've sold out on my listings, please contact me for details.
