After nearly 100 years the wick burner is almost dead! Your Aga or Rayburn cooker has little future with a wick burner - it would NEVER pass the Building Inspector in a new house as its a grossly inefficient waster of oil! No safety cut out if it goes off, little control apart from a carb on the side.light with a MATCH? Who has those now?
Then it clogs up every 3 months - thanks to Low Sulphur oil - nothing to do with your engineer!
Yes, it's time has come.Like the horse and cart it did the job- slowly and as long as it had frequent attention! But do you KNOW what's going on?
  • Low sulphur oil is here to stay - less polluting! Why should Her Maj Govt care about middle class Aga / Rayburn Owners -usually country dwellers- and married-maybe EVEN Hunt Supporters who (used to) chase bunnies and freddy fox and shoot pheasants?  
  • Oil companies loose money on domestic heating oil - it's too labour intensive and easier to sell diesel / petrol where you drive to collect it!
  • Oil Agas are inefficient - heat the dog/ kitchen at 3am? Why-because the design can't be re-fired without electric or a major redesign!
  • Aga -bless them- can sell loads of electric cookers - why bother with cookers that need a frequent service and cost a LOT to install?
The BM company is no more - they were bought out. So no more BM control valves ( carbs) on the side of your cooker.Electric head - also dead!
Safety valves - made by KBB, Peerless etc .Yes still made but only there to switch off the oil if the cooker gets too hot - a fire in the kitchen outside the cooker won't activate it!

Is there an aswer? Well if you want to keep your Aga or Rayburn - wick burner versions- the ONLY product on the market to replace it is the SNUGBURNER!

A: You cant have it both ways.If you have a kitchen warmer Rayburn with wick burner is uses LOADS of oil and is grossly inefficient.We would suggest an OF7 - same size as yours - with either left or right hand flue / ovens -... Continue reading

 Q: Does your comments about Rayburns also apply to Oil fired Rayburn Nouvelle?
A: Unfortunately yes - it has a fanned pot burner boiler side and a simple wick burner on cooker side barry

 Q: I have a 200k Rayburn (basically the 208kn without the back boiler so it just does cooking) does the snugburner fit this model as it only mentions the 208K not the 208kn or 200k
