Thank you for viewing our items and welcome to Andes Funky.  Our Awayos are sourced from the local artisans of the Lake Titicaca area of Bolivia.

Awayo is a traditional woven textile used in the Andean region since pre-hispanic times.  These types of Awayos are regularly used by Quechua women to carry their babies or goods. 

Originally the Awayo is a hand woven fabric and when weaving the men and women weave stories of their community, symbols of their culture or what they have dreamt for, into their work, in pictures of abstract design, naive figurative representations or surrealistic monsters dependant upon region.  Every region has it's own colours, designs and techniques.  They are made to be extremely durable and strong, yet flexible and come in many different vibrant colours.
