Description: An exquisite portrait oil on artist's canvas dating circa 1831 - 1836, framed - approx 30 X 24 inches (76.2 X 60.96cm).
This is an exquisite English School oil dating from the William 4th period. The portrait depicts a magnificent study of a woman in her early 30s named as "Harriet Clarke Jervoise". A classic antique Society portrait from the 19th Century attributed to the Glaswegian portrait painter "John Partridge". The portrait is set on a dark brown ground, the sitter wearing a thick black coat with a white fur collar trim. She has been beautifully depicted, light casting shadows and highlighting her pale skin, having healthy rosy cheeks, sparkling blue eyes looking directly at the viewer. Her face is framed by thick wavy brown hair, tied in a bun to the back of her head. A beautiful and flattering study of this fine young woman. There is some very old manuscript on a label to the reverse of the paining naming the sitter of the portrait and also attributing the painting as by "Partridge" (see biog. Reference below).
