These uplighters are a quite outstanding example of art deco grandeur at it's best. They stand 40 inches tall - weigh 5Kg each and can be seen working. They would grace either an elaborate staircase or a particularly majestic room. Alternatively could be used in a non domestic environment - hotel, restaurant etc.
The bases are solid brass with 4 threaded drill holes (one lamps drill hole's have not punctured the outer layer of finely polished brass). The bases are 6 inches in diameter.
The columns are 2 inches in diameter and the brass columns comprise at least 2/16ths of an inch thickness. The columns have some areas of tarnish, one is worse than the other three, which I have attempted to show in the photographs. This does not however diminsh the overall effect of their wonderful quality which, given their age, is completely consistent.
The bowls are 16.5 inches in diameter. The brass is thinner and the insides have been painted while for reflection of the light. One bowl has some slight uneveness on the surface where I can only assume something or someone has knocked into it. This is refected on the inside of the bowl where the paint has lifted - again this is shown in the photos. The other bowls have very minor evidence of slight indentations but again these are hardly discernable. One bowl has 6 small spots where the outer layer of the polished brass has flaked off (as shown in the lamp closest in the upsidedown photo). Overall the quality of the bowls and their finish is excellent.
I have fitted 100 watt bulbs but clearly they could take higher or lower strength bulbs. I have extended the wiring to enable the pictures to be taken. I bought them with the wiring cut just proud of the bottom of the columns. I am not a fan of the guesswork involved with reserves so I have set the starting price at £550. I have never seen anything like these outside of fabulous deco "palaces" . I will try to answer any questions. It is preferable for the buyer to collect but I do not want to limit potential bids so I will discuss transportation. At this stage I do not know what arrangement we would need to come to so am happy to discuss but do no know the likely cost. .
