This is a beautiful example of a conniseur collectable very early English, hand painted blue & whiteTea Bowl. This delicate, fine small porcelain piece is in the 'chinese' or Chinoisserie style and believed to date from the mid 18th century. l openly confess to not knowing a lot about ceramics of this early period - however I have read everything available on the subject in my local library. My opinion based on Goddens (and other references) is that it is First period Worcester c1750. My confidence would be higher if were not for the fact that at least 4 other factories used the same open Crescent base mark . Details - Diametre at top rim 3"(75mm) - Vertical height 1.75" (45mm) - Diametre of foot rim 1.625" (35mm). Foot ring (quite deep) 0.25" (7mm). Note - open 'Crescent' base mark formed by 2 curved lines meeting at tips, may appear solid in photo but is clearly not painted between lines or filled in. . Condition - 98% - No chips or cracks, flakes or restoration . Has 3 miniscule firing flaws - 1. minor roughness over 2mm of rim. Cannot be seen with naked eye. But under a eye-glass reveals 'it is extra glaze' . 2. Base has rough pontil point on underside of foot ring. 3. inside bottom of has 3 single grains of yellow sand caught in the glaze. Informed comment welcomed. Paypal only from International bidders outside the British Isles - No other accepted |
