Item specifics - Antique Furniture
Product Type: --Age: 1800-1899
Original/Reproduction: OriginalMaterial: --
Style: --Condition: Used

This is a substantial antique Victorian bookcase with breakfront design, which I am told dates around c1880's.  This wood is of a rich mahogany which has aged to a beautiful deep patina.  Some of the wood is veneered and has the usual knocks and scratches which are due to its age and use.

The bookcase features 3 fixed central sheves and at each side of the central shelves there are 2 adjustable shelves.  The bottom section of the bookcase has a pull out writing/reading shelf.  There are 3 large draws with two cuboards either side which has a central fixed shelf.

This bookcase comes apart in 3 sections, base section, top section and the cornice.  This is a very heavy solid item of furniture and will give you lots of room to store your books and treasures.

Condition:  The bookcase has a number of scratches which you would expect from a piece of furniture which is used and is also of this age.  Three of the draw handles have chips in the wood, a small part of the veneer is cracked on the cornice, top of the right hand cuboard door has a scratch, some of the venner at the base of the draw section is missing.

This is a very useable bookcase which will grace any room and give you many years of pleasure.  An eye-catching piece of furniture which has beautiful dimensions and curves.

Due to size and weight, local pick up only.  You are welcome to come and view the item, or if you have any questions please contact me.

The bookcase features 3 fixed central shelves and at each side of the central shelves there are 2 adjustable shelves.  The bottom section of the bookcase has a pull out writing/reading shelf.  There are 3 large draws with two cupboards either side which has a central fixed shelf.  I have been informed that there would have been doors to the top part of the bookcase but these have long since been removed by a previous owner and is hard to spot.

This bookcase comes apart in 3 sections, base section, top section and the cornice.  This is a very heavy solid item of furniture and will give you lots of room to store your books and treasures.  I have been told by a dealer that the back panels and draws are made of oak which was used to make the piece more sturdy and solid, but I am not an expert and just bought the bookcase because I liked it.  Loathed to part with it but I have inherited another one from a relative and would rather keep that for sentimental reasons.

Condition:  Please remember this is a genuine antique and not a reproduction or new piece of furniture and as such will not be perfect.  The bookcase has a number of scratches which you would expect from a piece of furniture which is used and is also of this age.  Four of the draw handles have chips in the wood, a small part of the veneer is cracked on the cornice, top of the right hand cupboard door has a scratch, some of the veneer at the base of the draw section is missing and the end of the bottom cornice nearest to the wall has a chip of wood missing.  I have added more pictures to illustrate but in my opinion does not detract from the beauty of the bookcase and it has certainly been the centre piece of my drawing room for the past few years.

This is a very useable bookcase which will grace any room and give you many years of pleasure.  An eye-catching piece of furniture which has beautiful dimensions and curves.

Due to size and weight, local pick up only.  This is very heavy and of solid construction.  You are welcome to come and view the item, or if you have any questions please contact me.
