Antique Victorian Glazed Clerks or Teachers Mahogany Writing Slope Desk For Restoration

Circa 1900s

This is a Dickensian type clerical supervisor's or teachers desk or writing slope, with opening top and glazed privacy screens. It is made from mahogany, and would have sat on a pedestal or table. It even has the original rubber stamp rack on one side.

It is structurally sound but will need a some joinery work to tidy it up, and re-polishing to look it's best.

Fair Condition (for it's age)

95 x 87 x 60 Cm Approx (2.5cm = 1 inch approx)

70.0 Kg Weight (1.00Kg = 2lb approx)

Buyer Collection Only I'm afraid, although I can store until collection can be arranged. Shipping will be expensive. I can deliver for reasonable recompense for my time and petrol .

I am happy to Combine Postage

If you want to buy something extra from my shop, I promise to give you full advantage of combined postage. In fact, with a heavy purchase, UK internal parcel post intervals are such that you may not have to pay any extra for a small additional inclusion.

I am happy to quote for International Shipping & Insurance - Worldwide.

For items under 2.0 kg weight, I mostly use Royal Mail Airmail. The maximum you will pay for a 2.0 kg package (Under 60 cm) is £12.00 GBP to Europe or £24.00 GBP to Worldwide.

Lighter items will cost less. You can estimate for lighter packages pro-rata. For example, the most you will pay for a 1.0 kg package (Under 60 cm) is £7.00 GBP to Europe or £13.00 GBP to Worldwide.

I am happy to ship heavy items overseas

Items over 2.0 kg weight & large items (Over 60 cm) are in a different international postage category. I recommend that overseas bidders contact me for a shipping estimate, to avoid embarrassing surprises. These items can get quite expensive to ship worldwide as the weight or volume increases. I often use UPS or DHL Couriers, as they are usually cheaper and far quicker than the old surface mail category.

Do I offer insurance and 'signed for' delivery?

I always ask buyers if they want postal insurance or 'signed for' delivery. If you choose not to pay for this, then I personally believe you are tacitly agreeing to join me in taking a small risk. I therefore do not like buyers that resort immediately the Paypal reversal of funds process without contacting me first. I will always help as much as I can with loss or breakage claims.

I always obtain proof of postage, but Ebay and Paypal rules technically insist on proof of delivery. This means that to fully protect myself, I should also insist on 'signed for' postage. This is absurd, as it would raise the postage cost on every item - especially on small items. In reality the risk is small, as losses are rare, and I pack as carefully as I can to avoid breakage. Besides, there is already a little known, low level insurance cover on UK postage and airmail. But be warned, it is a time consuming process to claim at this level. I therefore personally interpret this situation to mean that, if you are happy with the initial risk, you will also bear with me, and be patient, if it comes to extracting a basic insurance claim from the Post Office.
