Amazing roll of Antique, hand woven European Hemp!
I am selling this stunning hand-woven antique hemp by the yard, so each length measures 1 yard long by 16 inches wide~ should you require a longer length, simply change the quantity button eg. should you wish to purchase a 4 yard continuous length, simply change the quantity button to 4 and you will receive a 4 yard length by 16 inches wide)
This is one of the heaviest and darkest rolls of Antique hemp I have ever come across! ~ I would date this roll c1850 ~ it is amazingly slubby and nubby, very dark, nutty tone and extremely primitive! ~*~ This roll has wonderful tone and texture and stunning weight! ~ This roll would make STUNNING table runners, and it is even heavy enough to use as a stair runner. It certainly could be used for upholstery as it isn't too rigid, however it is extremely heavy, so wouldn't be suitable for light upholstery projects~ an extraordinary find, wonderful textile treasure! ~ This roll has many floating threads from the hand weaving, they can either be cut and tucked into the fabric ( or tied) or they can be used to show off it's primitive charm~*~

This roll in lovely condition and is unused! ~ It has some light storage dirt that will wash beautifully. Simply machine wash, tumble dry~ ( please see below)~*~* ~*~ ~*~ !!!

~*~The woman weavers of yesterday would spend their evenings weaving these amazing rolls of linen. It took the average woman 1 night to weave 60 centimeters ( 24 inches) of linen
~*~ These rolls are 100% machine washable, on warm .if there is visible dirt, just add a bit of Oxywash! They are so easy to wash, simply spin dry then remove when wet. Roll the linen tightly and let sit overnight. In the morning unroll and allow to dry naturally~this presses the linen and there is usually no need to iron ( unless you prefer it perfect). ~*~ I to add a fabric softener to the final rinse for added softness and tumble dry. This adds a lovely soft texture to the textiles~*~ Pure linen or hemp rolls tend to have no shrinkage, the rolls with cotton tend to have some shrinkage. These rolls are tough and sturdy, built to last.....and last and last!! These rolls can also be dried in a dryer, always test of the stripe is bold as very rarely there can be some bleeding ~*~ Hemp is built to last for many many generations making it a lovely textile for creating family heirlooms~*~
All of my linen rolls are produced using natural fibers. Natural fibers have the irregularities and subtleties that are inherent ...adding to their rustic charm~*~

I have had many years of research and hands on experience with these wonderful textiles. I describe items as Antique if I estimate the age to be 100 years of age or greater. EBay currently define an antique as dating to 1930 or earlier. I describe items as Vintage, as per the dictionary definition, if I feel the textile has age, or is outdated or old-fashioned, dating from the past. If I use both Antique/Vintage when describing a textile, it is because I feel the textile is most likely 100 years of age or greater, but may fall just short of that date. I often work in collaboration with other colleagues and textile specialists to ascertain the approximate age of my textiles, however ultimately any statement of age is a matter of best judgment only~*~I also use my best professional judgment to ascertain the fiber content of my textiles, using sight and feel and where possible historical information and context to help me to identify plants used in a particular era.
