Just found in a prominent southern NC estate, this is a wonderful old original child's sampler. This was done by Margaret "Hear" and one more letter I cannot make out. It is dated Apr 23, 1824.
It has a house with a lady standing beside it, with a rabbit and a dog behind her. The other side has a peacock with his tail feathers spread.
There is another bird at the bottom right with an apple tree over him. The letters "GH" and "EM" are over the house with a heart in between them.
There are two rows of alphabet letters, one uppercase and one lowercase. Under those are the numbers 1-10 and other designs.
The border consists of a flower pot design.
There is no glass over this sampler. Of course, with any sampler of this age, the colors are not as vibrant as they once were. There is some stitching missing in spots, but not a lot. Where it was stretched and framed, it is starting to have some holes around the edges where the nails are.
I believe this is the original frame and backing.

The sampler measures 17" tall and 16.25" across, not including the frame.

Shipping Information

If a fixed shipping charge is not indicated, please use the shipping calculator above in order to determine the approximate shipping rate for this auction based on your postal zone. All shipping includes a package protection plan (insurance), unless otherwise noted in the description, and affords the buyer protection on the package if damaged in shipping. This protection may be covered by Wuffin-Meow, United States Post Office, or a third party insurer. In the unlikely event you do receive an item that is damaged during shipping, please contact us for instructions.

Checks, money orders or Paypal (confirmed addresses only) are gladly accepted. Money orders and Paypal payments will be shipped promptly once received. Payment is expected within 10 days of auction close, unless other arrangements were made prior to bidding. We normally have a 48 hour (or less) shipping turnaround time, excluding holidays or weekends. We reserve the right to hold merchandise until personal checks clear the bank (approximately 10 days).

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Payment methods are normally International Money Orders, in U.S. funds, only. This too is because of Paypal's policies regarding shipment to unconfirmed addresses.

Returns:
We strive to accurately portray each item and will provide several photos of the item. Therefore, all sales are to be considered final. If we do make an error in the description or overlook a significant problem, we will however back up our products. If, upon receipt of the item, the buyer notes a discrepancy, please contact me to discuss. If a return is authorized, a bid price refund will promptly be issued once we have received the returned merchandise and we have confirmed that it is in the condition it was originally sent to the buyer.
