Antique Irish Linen Poppy Damask Tablecloth, Rectangle

This is just so pretty: an old Irish linen damask tablecloth which measures 70 inches  by 52 inches with a lovely pattern of stripes and poppies. It has a proper border of poppies all the way round as well, and the woven stripes down the centre. It is clean and fresh and a useful size. It is also quite a dense, heavy linen. I don't think it has been used very much.

I'll  be listing a number of old tablecloths, one or two of them very beautiful, in the run up to the holiday season. I find that these old damasks can still be very useful for setting a dinner table - sometimes it helps to put a white sheet underneath. They are very forgiving - even if you spill wine on them, it generally comes out.  And if you have a big table, with lots of visitors, I have a friend who uses several cloths, mixing and matching. It works quite well, if you find that you can't get a cloth of the right size at a reasonable price.
