This buy it now is for this Amazing Antique French printed textile that dates c1870~
This lovely French printed textile is a beatiful, early chintz! ~*~ . This textile uses a range of printing techniques including block print to create this amazing Dahlia floral design!~ Chintz is actually an anglicized word which comes from the Indian word Chint, which meant veriegated or spotted! ~ however the term Chintz today refers to a textile that has a glazed finish. The glaze is either a glaze of wax, starch or resin . Originally they would be rubbed in by hand using a shell or rounded smooth stone!!~ The shiny glaze finish was thought to repel dust and dirt so it was very popular in early days. ~ This particular fabric has a lovely warm fawn ground, and the floral design was block printed on to it~ in a beautiful arborescent design. LOVELY big heads of Dahlias~*~* This fabric is a light weight cotton, appears to have been washed in the past at some point because some of the chintz finish has been removed~ although the glaze still is evident~The colors include fawn ground, teal, antique pinks , reds, and a lovely soft butter yellow. A wonderful textile indeed. Lovely for reproduction also~*~ ~*~ ( piece TWO)
This wonderful fabric measures: 3.47 feet long by 2.36 feet wide~*~ This piece has some storage marks in particular near the middle that should wash fully, but might leave a small mark behind. When held to the light one can see a little patch of very tiny holes near the side of this textile at the bottom. Near the middle at the bottom there is a small tear and around this there are some other very very small holes, this area is only a couple of inches wide~
